The guys behind the Nikon Hacker project have been really busy since we last talked to them. And even though they said that they were focusing more on stills than video, they’ve announced a new development in the video world. According to DIYPhotography, the team have figured out how to record 1080p video on the D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200, D600, D800, D800E, and the D4 at 54MB/s. But the D7000 can shoot video at 64MB/s.
As far as 100$ crops go though, we don’t see a major difference in the image quality. Before the Magic Lantern RAW video hack, it seemed like Nikon was really starting to lead the way in DSLR video over Canon. But for what it’s worth, Canon is still much more highly used.
Some of the builds are still in Alpha while others are in beta.
Now if only the Hacker project could find a way to record CineDNG from the camera.
