Weekend Humor isn’t meant to be taken seriously. So don’t, ya rube.
It’s the weird types that give photographers a bad rap. You know, the kind that’ll aim more than just his lens at a model. In New York City, photographer Jackson Hodges is making waves by having models keep their clothes on. Rather than have them strip down to their skivvies, Hodges wants the models he works with to feel as though they can be accepted with clothes on.
“You know, I just said, ‘Hey. How are you?'” Hodges told us over the phone. “She really responded to that, and as she told me about her day, she started to strip. And I told her that wouldn’t be necessary.”
Hodges has built his portfolio around women who would be naked with just about any other photographer interested in shooting them. What he found, however, was that they looked far more interesting and inviting with their clothes on.
“All of my guy friends would say, ‘Dude. Was she naked?'” Hodges said. “And I’d tell him that she wasn’t, that she wore some nice pants and a blouse. It’s surprisingly refreshing to have a girl dress like she’s going to the library.”
The market for modest photography is growing, and Hodges is spearheading that. He helped set up a modeling agency called Modest Models, and within a day, he had to start putting people on a waiting list. Prospective photographers and agents can get a sense of what these girls would wear under normal circumstances.
“Most agencies have had to shut down because their members left in droves,” Hodges said. “Models respond to respect. Who knew?”
