It’s only been a couple of days since we heard about Nikon’s 35mm f1.8G lens for full frame sensors and now a few more details have leaked out along with the possibility of a new 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G DX kit lens. Some new lens specs courtesy of Nikon Rumors have come forth detailing the 35mm prime has 11 elements in 8 groups inside – one more in each category compared to the 35mm f1.4G for FX systems. The new lens also has the addition of one Extra-low Dispersion glass element and a seven bladed aperture, which may not be as nice and round as the nine blades on the Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG HSM.
The other new addition in the news leak suggests we could also see a new Nikon AF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G DX VRII kit lens. The old Nikon standby has been around since 2005, and while it’s a lens in the “just okay” pile, it certainly could use an upgrade. The new version is listed as a “really compact (collapsible) and light lens body” weighing just 200 grams (or 0.4 pounds). Internally the lens could feature 11 elements in 8 groups and 1 aspherical element with an aperture of 7 blades. If the early reports are true, we could see this new lens being packaged in with the next line of Nikon D3400s and D5400s.
