At this year’s NAB show, Sony offered a small peek at what its engineers are developing. While the 4K DSLR-like camera to the left in the above image is a prototype, it is indicative of Sony’s effort to stake its place in the cinema arena against Canon. The unit to the right is a compact cinema camera. Sitting comfortably at the back are several lenses that Sony has in the pipeline, two of which are 20mm and 135mm cinema lenses. The units won’t be around for some time, and they are early enough in their development that they weren’t available on the show floor. One can only guess at the eventual prices. I feel my wallet burning already.
