Canon has been one of the most profitable companies in the camera market. They have had the largest share in digital cameras, and it appears that they will see a rise again in their profits, for the better. Here’s the company’s fiscal report.
Additional reporting has been added by Chris Gampat
According to a new article by Nikkei Shimbun, the company has revealed its consolidated net profit for this fiscal year, and that is now to rise by 2% year-on-year to 340 billion yen. Overall, this showcases a 7 billion yen revision from the previous forecast. The reason for this are two things: a weak yen and the refund tied to invalidating US tariffs.
The Stats
Per the report by the company, the following numbers are:
- Full-year sales are expected to rise 4% to 4.8 trillion yen.
- Operating profit is expected to be 9 billion yen above prior forecasts.
- Dividends are held steady at 160 yen per share.
- H1 2026 (Jan to June) has consolidated sales of 2.2745 trillion yen (+3% YoY), and a net profit of 171.1 billion yen (+10% YoY).
Due to the yen standing at 156.56 yen per dollar, this helps to add 34.1 billion yen to operating profit due to the conversion rate.

Canon has also benefited from the US Supreme Court ruling in February, which cancels the reciprocal tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The refund process and application started in April, and Canon says it had received about a 90% refund by June. However, Executive Director Minoru Asada revealed that the company will use a 50 to 60 billion yen refund for sales promotions.
The Imaging Division
At the same time, Canon‘s imaging division stands out. The sale numbers have risen by 17.7% and operating profit up 78.7%. Cameras such as EOS R6 Mark III have been a driver of profit. Compact camera sales have also seen a significant rise. As the Google’s translated version of the report adds:
For compact cameras, we will increase production volume starting in the second half, aiming for a sales increase of over 50% for the full year.

Canon also notes the war in the Middle East will cut operating profit by 34.6 billion yen. The reasons range from weaker demand in the region to logistics disruptions, and climbing memory semiconductor prices. This means they may have to remove another 6 billion yen from operating profit, even with inventory secured through year-end.
What It Meas for Canon Users
The company usually has sales promotions, which means one can see rebates, bundle deals or price adjustments. The latter makes sense since Canon had to raise the prices of its cameras. The refund will also be a one-time option and not a permanent cost-reduction. This could also be a contrast to semiconductor prices.
A lot of users are buying Canon cameras, which are keeping the sales steady. So, it is also likely that the changes will be visible for the higher full-frame cameras, over compact or budget offerings.
Overall, one has to be cautious, since the environment is quite challenging. The future will be uncertain, and we aren’t sure how long Canon can continue to keep the users’ needs in mind.
How likely is all this to happen though? Honestly, quite likely — but more likely around the holidays or closer to the end of the year. Canon’s perpetual sales plan is to think about the holiday sales that they can get and that often involves very deep discounts and bundles.
The good thing is that if Canon does it, other brands may indeed follow and do the same thing.
