When it comes to choosing a camera, there are multiple options that are fighting for your attention. Whether it is Canon’s mirrorless range or Sony’s expensive compact models, one is spoiled for choice. However, there is also an instance where people’s demands are not yet met. For instance, some photographers are still keen to see a new compact from Fujifilm.
The camera we are talking about is the successor to the X70. Since compact cameras are now back in trend, the X70 is a model that people are opting for. Given the rise in demand, it makes one wonder, where is the X80 yet?
The X70’s price has climbed over the years, with certain models costing over $1000. This marks an increase of about $300, given that the original price was $699. The X70 has been popular even before the X100VI was introduced.
People, both young and old, are keen on purchasing a compact that they can take anywhere. The X100VI filled that gap, but only for content creators. The X70, on the other hand, was offered a lot for photographers shooting every day. Speaking about its performance, we had written in our review:
Using the Fujifilm X70, you’re bound to be able to take incredible images. Like your phone, this is truly a carry-with-you-everywhere camera. It’s small, it’s thin, it can deliver jaw dropping image quality–there isn’t much to complain about here.
Given the current scenario, it only makes sense to introduce the X80. The skeleton of the camera is anyway in its place. Fujifilm already has the 28mm f2.8 lens from the previous camera, and other elements such as built-in flash and a tilt screen can be borrowed from the X-E5 and X100VI, respectively. If one includes a 26MP X-Processor 5, image stabilization, and better weather sealing in place, the X80 could be a catch in a reviving compact camera market.
In fact, Fujifilm can do something similar to the GR lineup, offering a 28mm and 40mm lens version. This can help both street photographers, and those who shoot documentary and portrait images. However, one of the challenges is that the X80 could make the X100VI, one of their best-selling cameras, somewhat redundant. However, knowing that the cameras work a bit differently, it makes sense to have offerings that can cater to different audiences. If you look at our website, we have created multiple lists that showcase compact cameras from different years. And since they are trending right now, it proves the demand is still prevalent.
The Fujifilm X80 could be the camera that photographers do not leave behind. The APS-C sensor will help to get better photos, and if included with a zoom lens, many will consider it on their phones. However, it remains to be seen if Fujifilm is willing to take that risk anytime soon.
