Godox has more than a handful of mini flashes in their lineup already, and the brand has just announced the latest addition to this – the Godox iM30Pro. Keeping in line with the others, this one too is small and lightweight, but just like with the iT30Pro, it has a few interesting tricks up its sleeve.
The Godox iM30Pro iFlash
Godox probably has the most choice when it comes to fun sized flashes these days. But having tested a few of them, we can confirm that they aren’t just cute to look at – they produce some superb quality light as well and have a good series of accessories that they can be paired with. The newest model to join Godox in their iFlash lineup, is the new iM30Pro – a pocket-sized little powerhouse that can easily slip into a jacket pocket.
At just 121 grams and measuring a miniscule 62 × 64 × 48mm, the iM30Pro is genuinely tiny. It’s the kind of flash leave on your second camera permanently, or have in your main camera bag at all times as a backup for when your main speedlight dies. Those of us who value lightweight and unobtrusive camera gear will certainly appreciate the form factor of the iM30Pro but it doesn’t mean Godox cut corners on quality. It looks to have been designed with a retro sensibility. At first glance, you can tell right away that it would pair beautifully with classic-looking cameras like the Fujifilm X100 series, the Nikon Zf and pretty much any rangefinder from the analog era.
Who’s It For

Honestly, this is a flash any photographer – pro or amatuer – can be proud to own and make use of. It looks ideal for fill-flash, clearing out shadows on faces, adding a catch light to eyes, or just as a mood uplifter in dingy scenarios. There’s also a case for using it, albeit respectfully, when doing street photography. And when you look at it, you’d think this was all it’s for – a flash that’s pointed straight at the subject, doing the bare minimum while looking classy at all times. But that’s where the iM30Pro will surprise you.

The adjustable tilt head locks into four positions (45°, 60°, 75° and 90°) for those times when you don’t want a harshly lit look on your subjects. The GN15 rating might not be strong enough for locations with really high ceilings, but in places like ballrooms, party halls, offices and the like, it can definitely do the job.
The Nightlife Look

Another niche use case for such flashes, is the “glam outdoor nightlife” look, such as seen in the image above. If you the enjoy hard, direct, high-contrast flash fashionista look that feels like it was shot on the streets of Tokyo at night, or backstage at a fashion show, expect the iM30Pro to deliver such photos straight out of the box.

Dial in a slow shutter speed and set the flash to the new Smart AUTO mode to get such photos effortlessly. Or if you’re a bit more old school, the manual mode gives you power control from 1/128 to full power in 1/3 stop increments. The full-color back screen LCD ensures you can adjust these settings easily anywhere. And for a pop of color, pair the iM30Pro with optional magnetic MA01 color gels available from Godox.
The Godox iM30Pro isn’t meant to replace your primary flash system. But it can act as a very handy replacement when the need arises. It will also make you more likely to experiment and produce some offbeat results with it.
