Fujifilm is perhaps the only company that creates the most iconic APS-C cameras. In fact, we have even written about how Fujifilm cameras have captured some award-winning images over the years. The company has been a trusted companion of many bird photographers, so today, we take a look at the perfect kit that will help you get the best results.
Fujifilm XH2

What makes it great? This is Fujifilm’s highest resolution APS-C camera on the market. With a 40MP X-Trans 5 sensor, in-built image stabilization, and a burst rate of 20fps, the XH2 is designed for serious photographers who demand exceptional resolution and performance. You also get 1/180,000 shutter speed, have a DSLR life grip and it’s a pretty well-designed camera. Fujifilm does not mention an IP rating, but in our test, the camera managed to survive drizzling rain.
Why is it unique? The camera’s subject detection has vastly improved after the firmware update. This is particularly the case when working with subjects that take a small part of the frame. Bird detection mode is pretty exceptional, as it can now detect the eyes of insects. The sensor results in pretty photos, and you at lower ISOs, your RAW files look vivid, especially when pairing it with film simulations. And if you are shooting at high ISOs, the results are more detailed at ISO 6400.
In the hands, it feels like a smaller version of a Fujifilm GFX camera. My personal thoughts on the retro ergonomics aside, the XH2 feels practical in many ways.

Fujifilm 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR

What makes it great? The lens is created with 21 elements in 14 groups, and 5 extra-low dispersion elements and 1 super extra-low dispersion element. There are 9 blade apertures, and has 12 points of weather sealing. It is a large lens, one that extends a lot when you zoom out. There is also a tripod collar, OIS, aperture, and focusing range, amongst others. The lens works well in the rain as well, which makes it perfect with the XH2.
Why is it unique? The Fujifilm 100-400mm is an amazing lens that focuses really fast. It can track subjects, and even does so when the subject is moving towards the camera. The image quality is just as amazing. The bokeh is spectacular for a lens of this nature. There is no chromatic aberration, excellent colors, and there are a sharp lens. The lens also offers blur-free images.
When you consider the fact that there really is nothing quite like the Fujifilm 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 lens on the market, you get a greater reason to want to give it an Editor’s Choice award. But then you look at the image quality it can deliver, add in weather sealing, and you’ve got a serious winner.
