When the Fujifilm X100s was announced, I remembered that it was given the “s” moniker for “speed.” In truth, it’s rare that Fujifilm and speed are seen in the same sentence together. It’s also true that an image that I shot with this camera still remains in my street photography portfolio. Can this camera shoot great photos? You bet. Can it capture good candids? Totally, in good lighting. But is it worth getting in 2025?
This is one of those situations where I’m going to say no unless you really are craving the retro digicam look that a 2013 camera can give you. In the review of the X100S, I found the camera to be overall really good for the time period. But there is little in my memory that really makes me want to pick this camera up again.
In fact, the Fujifilm X100 series didn’t take a big leap forward until the X100F. And even then, the X100V took the biggest steps forward. These days, I think that the cameras are a bit of a meme more than anything else.
In this situation, the X100s is a good camera in that it takes and can make good photographs as well a provide a lot of versatility when it comes to editing. But otherwise, I wouldn’t look twice at this thing.
