The past year may have humbled many camera manufacturers. We saw the rise of vintage cameras, which are over a decade old. This change in consumer behavior resulted in companies finally acknowledging what is missing in this high-megapixel world. Although there are some newer compact camera options, there are few such advances in the cellphone camera segment. So, what does one do if one wants to work with a smaller device than a compact camera? They choose the iPod Touch.
Where is the iPod Touch Trending?
The first question we asked ourselves, after we discovered how iPod Touch is still in trend, is who is using it, and where. As usual, we hopped on Google Trends to look at the past year’s data, and to our surprise, the first country to still go after the iPod touch is not the United States but Japan. Considering that Japan has always been tech-savvy and that it was the first to embrace Y2K aesthetics, this makes much more sense. Some of the other countries that have also shown similar interest include Canada, Puerto Rico, Ghana, Germany, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and India.

In the US alone, Alaska, Delaware, Maine, Nebraska, Massachusetts, and North Dakota are some of the states that showcased a rising interest in iPod Touch. With a quick look at social media trends, one also sees both millennials and Gen Z interested in using the device. The photographs range from images of day to day activities to some selfies.

Why is That the Case Now?
We believe that the boost of retro aesthetics on social media is critical to this. For instance, with the iPod Touch 4th Gen, one gets colorful grainy images that are pleasing. In some ways, they replicate the look of film on a digital camera (see images below).

While this gives a sense of nostalgia to older millennials who were using the iPod Touch during their teens and early 20s, the younger generation is exploring the 2000 aesthetics, which is very different than the sharp images they grew up with. It also makes one enjoy older devices, which have a different look and feel. In addition, the older device is also perfect for anyone who wants to take a break from all the noise, while they continue to make stand out images in today’s time.
Should You Buy One?
Honestly, if you have a few dollars spare, you can certainly hop on this bandwagon. On eBay, an iPod Touch can cost you anywhere between $15 to $200. This, of course, includes different models, storage space, and if it has certain apps that are no longer available. There are some exceptions that are selling for $15,000 as it contains rare games and 14GB of storage.
An iPod Touch is also a great way to have an old-school Apple camera, but without getting Apple intelligence. You can still get the look an feel of an old iPhone, without facing the challenging of newer models. Furthermore, the image quality is truly unique, which only some older digicam can provide. However, a digicam can still cost a few hundred dollars. The Apple device, especially the 3rd and 4th Gen, are quite inexpensive. So if you are unable to afford a digicam, then the vintage iPod Touch can be your go to device.
