Back in 2014, we reported on the Nikon 6mm f2.8 Fisheye lens selling for $96,187.50. Then we reported on the Nikon 17mm f4 fisheye lens in 2018 selling for $75,000. But both of those pale in comparison to what we’ve found the rare Nikon 14.3mm f4. For the price of $249,999.00, this ultra-rare lens can be yours. Bundled with the lens for free are the bragging rights and understanding that you own something that’s going to last much longer than a Tesla Cybertruck.
Nikon Rumors stated last year that this lens was purposely made for 70mm film and Disney. But more than that, there seems to be no other information about this lens on the web. If you get a hold of it though,
While we think it’s fun to report on something like this, the Phoblographer’s links have purposely stopped sending eBay traffic because of what we think is unfair treatment of affiliate partners. So instead, we urge you to search eBay for a listing called EXTREMELY RARE AND UNIQUE MUSEUM PIECE OF A NIKON NIKKOR FISHEYE 14,3 MM / F 4.0 by Leica Store Lisse.
Here’s the information from the eBay listing.:
Offered to you is one of the biggest, rarest and most collectible Nikon museum level pieces of photography and optics history: the one of a kind Nikon fisheye Nikkor 14.3mm f4 lens. The lens was made originally for the Disney Studios, with plans to use it for a futuristic film and theater viewing with 360 degree screens. Produced by Nikon, the lens is capable of covering IMAX 360 degree film cameras at 70mm film !! The legendary, elusive and regularly discussed Nikon 6mm f2.8 is considered to be the holy grail of (fish eye) lenses and of which Nikon produced a total of around 200 pieces in total (and for instance is now offered for $140k). Considering this lens is one of a kind vs the “many” copies of the 6mm, features 70mm coverage vs 35mm of the 6mm, has a similarly ultra-fast aperture scaled up to 70mm, you can understand the significance of what this lens is about. Lens has got serial number : 112001 and comes in the original wooden case produced for it as it comes with the original lens cap included as well. For “scale reference”, the Leica Noctilux 50mm f1.2 stands next to the giant Nikon lens in one of the pictures included as well which give you an idea of the enormous size of the lens !! With a bit of professional engineering this lens can be adapted to many modern cameras, such as Leica S or Hasselblad XCD. Its speed of f4 (which translates to f2.8 on 35mm) can be considered ultra-fast within its exclusive class. It’s just a marvel to gaze into this lens and get lost in the glass.
Personally I consider it one of the best and most desirable Nikon lens in the world , so take your chance to own such a rare Nikon item before it’s sold and no longer available for sale on e-Bay.
