A special edition camera kit, especially a limited one, is the most prized possession of any photographer. Purchasing such cameras is no easy feat, but some still do it out of their love for the brand and to possess something a little different from the usual devices in the market. Furthermore, with time, a limited edition kit can become an artifact that can be passed from one generation to another. The significance of such a camera becomes more prominent when it comes from an iconic brand like Hasselblad. And so, in a recent announcement, the heritage company has unveiled a new kit: the Hasselblad X2D 100C Earth Explorer Limited Edition. How is it different, and what makes it so special? You will find that just in a minute.
The Hasselblad Limited Edition Kit For Adventurers
The Hasselblad Earth Explorer Limited Edition is aimed at photographers who enjoy the wild. The kit is limited to 1,000 units and features a camera body, XCD 55V lens, and accessories. The latter includes a limited-edition camera strap, UV filter, X System battery charging hub, and two X System batteries.

While the X2D 100C’s specifications remain unchanged, its body features a “Tundra Brown exterior” inspired by the Nordic landscapes. This means the camera blends grey-green and deep brown to create a stylish minimalist exterior. Furthermore, to prove that it is a limited edition kit, Hasselblad will also have an engraving with the text “Earth Explorer” using a laser at the side of the camera body, as well as a special serial number ranging from 0001 to 1000. There is another way to make the model a standout device: the start-up screen will feature an “Earth Explorer Limited Edition” when you turn on the camera.

Another interesting bit is the exterior of the kit’s strap: it is created using eco-friendly recycled plastics and traditional weaving techniques. The exterior also features a hand-embroidered text that states “Hasselblad.” Meanwhile, its inside features soft fabric to ensure ease of use and “Earth Explorer” inscribed on it. The entire special edition kit is available at $13,999.

Our Thoughts About the Hasselblad X2D 100C Earth Explorer Limited Edition
Hasselblad has been launching limited edition kits for decades, much like Polaroid and Leica. For instance, in 2006, they released the 503CWD and a Zeiss Planar CFE 2.8/80mm lens in a limited edition kit for the 100th birth anniversary of Victor Hasselblad, the company’s founder. The device, too, was featured on 500 units, each numbered and engraved with Victor’s signature. In 2019, to celebrate Apollo 11′ landing, and mark Hasselblad’s indomitable mark of sending cameras to the moon, the company launched the 907X Special Edition, featuring CFV II 50C digital back. Like the X2D 100C edition, a special text, “On the Moon Since 1969,” was etched on both devices. In 2021, a special 907X Anniversary Edition Kit was released to celebrate 80 years of Hasselblad.
Since the camera specifications have not changed, the decision depends on whether you already own the same device. Sure, a special edition is really a steal-worthy deal, especially if it is from a company like Hasselblad. It also means you probably will never get a chance to purchase the device again. If you are wondering how the X2D 100C works, then let us tell you what it provides you with the most outstanding image quality (thanks to the massive 100MP sensor), but it comes with a slower autofocus and no focus peaking. Furthermore, a medium format is a slow camera; with the rolling shutter, one can even miss a few frames. However, that’s the nature of the device. In our review, we found the images, even in low-lit, quite exceptional. Furthermore, the device feels premium in every way. So, with the new kit, photographers who love nature and making sharp, detailed images, slowly, will certainly enjoy the kit.
