We have often discussed the importance of print and how an image is incomplete unless you hold it in your hands. So, if you take the profession seriously, we have some good news for you. Canon has just updated one of its best-selling printers, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, almost after a decade. Named imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, the new flagship successor is designed particularly to meet the needs of studios, professionals, and businesses.
What Does the imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 offer?
The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 was one of Canon’s most successful printers. It offered accurate color, was easily set up, and had WiFi connectivity with Canon devices. The successor builds on this, offering a great spectrum of 11 inks and Chroma Optimizer. The new PFI-4100 inks also have a big capacity of 80ml. The imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 uses the LUCIA PRO II Pigment Ink System, which the company states offers accurate color production and longevity. Since this is an upgraded version of the former technology, Canon says that the printer will produce a much larger gamut of colors, with more details in darker areas such as shadows.

The printer prints A2+-size images, and with a paper roll, it can produce much larger images than its predecessor. While the PRO-1000 produced 1.2-meter-wide panoramas, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 can now create 3.27-meter-wide prints. However, the new device’s print time does not change much. A 17 x 22-inch colored bordered photo will take 4 minutes, while a 13 x 19-inch one will take about 2 minutes and 25 seconds.
Other new features include Canon’s Professional Print and Layout software, a new black-and-white print mode, three new settings for the Chrome Optimizer, and Custom Media Registration Flow. The latter gives users more flexibility with how long the printer holds the paper for drying and the height of the printer head. Furthermore, as Canon knows, users will not switch between software; they have integrated the drivers with Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic CC to make printing easy.
Why Is The Pro-1100 A Good Choice?
If you already have the older version, we think you must consider upgrading to the latest edition. For starters, the print quality is phenomenal. In our review, we noted that Lustre paper from this printer was better than Epson’s. However, we also remarked that Epson does better at matte prints. So our hope is that the imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 can change this.
Furthermore, in our 2023 update, we mentioned how the printer managed to preserve the ink pretty well when we moved with the device. Overall, we had very little to complain about the device. “Sometimes we run into issues with the paper not being straight, but the printer lets us know that, and we correct it. This is far better than some situations that we’ve run into with Epson in the past,” as Editor-in-Chief Chris Gampat wrote in his updated article.
The imagePROGRAF PRO-1100, priced at $1,299, may sound expensive, but considering that the predecessor was also available at the same cost, we think it is an expense worth the value. As we have mentioned, in the decade our editor used the device, despite its size and weight, the printer has given us “more value than some cameras and lenses have.” With that in mind, Canon’s imagePROGRAF PRO-1100 certainly makes sense as an option on your list if you intend to purchase new printers.
