According to Skylum, the new AI Sky Replacement technology is just one of the machine learning tools that the upcoming Luminar 4 will bring to photographers.
Gearing up for the upcoming release of Luminar 4, Skylum introduces the new AI Sky Replacement technology as one of the machine learning tools to expect from the software. The new tool also makes Luminar 4 the first photo editing software to have this automated feature, promising to save hours of editing with its easy-to-use interface and sensible workflows.
According to Skylum, these machine learning tools are the foundation of the Luminar platform, which aim to save photographers hours of manual editing. The AI Sky Replacement tool follows the AI Sky Enhancer filter introduced for Luminar 2018, and the Accent AI 2.0 content-aware filter for the Luminar 3 earlier this year. This new tool, which is designed to apply a realistic sky to a photo in seconds, will do away with manually replacing skies using a variety of tools such as Smart Selection, Luminosity Masking, Overlaying, Layers, Masking, and Color Range.
The AI Sky Replacement technology works by detecting both the sky and the elements present in a photograph, then automatically creating a mask for the sky. Then, it corrects the horizon and orientation of the sky. These make sure that the photo looks as realistic as possible when the new sky is inserted. It addresses common problems such as halos, artifacts, and transition edges, which often come with the current sky replacement techniques. It also allows for adjusting the sky to fit the rest of the image, including elements like exposure, color, tone, and depth of field, making it a versatile tool for other types of photography as well.
This new tool features a scene relight technology which adjusts the light and color of a photo upon selection of the sky. This matches the sky and the rest of the scene, so both appear to be taken during the same condition.
With Luminar 4 scheduled for release this fall, pre-orders are now open on the Skylum website. Pricing and upgrade pricing for current Luminar users will be announced at a later date.
