Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 II is Reportedly Coming This Fall

Great news to fans of the much missed Fujifilm Neopan Acros 100 black and white film!

Just a little over a year after Fujifilm killed off the Neopan Acros 100, the company seems to have finally heard the pleas to bring back the film photographer favorite. Following through their word on looking into bringing back its black and white films, Fujifilm finally made it official that they’re bringing back the Acros 100 come Fall 2019, but in a new form they dubbed Neopan Acros 100 II.

According to the press release shared by Fuji Rumors, bringing the Neopan Acros 100 back to life was made possible by replacing some of the materials that they found difficult to obtain, as well as adapting the production to the new materials.

“The company terminated sales of black and white films last fall due to a decrease in demand for black and white films and the difficulty in obtaining raw materials essential for production. However, the film enthusiasts and other young people of the SNS generation, who prefer the photo with the unique texture of the film, many people voiced the desire to continue the sales of our black and white film, resumption of sales from all angles. We have been working on it and we have succeeded in developing the black and white film ‘Acros II’ by researching substitutes for raw materials that became difficult to obtain and radically reexamining the manufacturing process to match the new raw materials.”

Fujifilm described the new and improved Neopan Acros 100 II as an “ultra-high-quality black and white film” which has the “world’s highest level of granularity, three-dimensional tone reproduction, and excellent sharpness.” The high level of granularity of this ISO 100 film is credited to the company’s proprietary “Super Fine-Σ particle technology.” Compared to the earlier version of the Neopan Acros 100, the new variant also features sharper gradation of the highlights, making three-dimensional reproduction of gradations possible. The high level of sharpness also promises a more prominent contour of the subject.

Fujifilm recommends the new Neopan Acros 100 II for a wide range of shooting purposes, including product shots, architectural photography, long exposures, and night photography.
