The power of stunning landscape photography lies not only in inspiring awe and sometimes wanderlust but also in its ability to emulate certain ideas and emotions. We’ve seen it in a lot of surreal landscapes previously featured, and we’re adding another fitting addition to the roster. In her beautiful collection titled Dutch Silence, Rotterdam-based photographer and designer Claire Droppert take us to some of the most tranquil vistas in the country, showing us how these sights and scenes emulate a relaxing silence.
Dutch Silence is part of her bigger Silence collection, the goal of which is to use a simplistic style essential in capturing a distinguishing silence. She describes these series as being created “out of interest for the absence of sound witnessed in different locations around the world. Capturing the feeling invoked by the place, all these places have certain tranquility where remoteness stands out.”

Showcasing the beautiful regions of South Holland, Brabant, Utrecht, The Wadden Sea, and Sealand, Dutch Silence demonstrates how the Netherlands is home to an “abundance of opportunities to capture the quintessential feeling of silence within the unique, diverse and interesting landscapes it has to offer.” Indeed, looking at these photos gives us a feeling of wanting to immerse in the relaxing tranquility that only the closeness to nature can provide.
As with her other Silence series, Droppert uses mood and tones to focus on the characteristics of certain locations. In Dutch Silence, she features a mix of scenes in different lighting conditions that produce varying hues, textures, and mood, yet all do bring a feeling of peacefulness and calm, just as all these series intended.
