Anyone in need of a vintage Marilyn Monroe print by Elliott Erwitt for their home or office?
Part of our regular vintage finds feature is the occasional rare print of iconic photographers. You know, the kind of stuff that will make fine accents to your home or office. Many of these prints have also made rounds in private collections and galleries, so they’re also sought after by art collectors. Today, we bring you a piece that is valuable for two reasons: it’s a rare signed print of Marilyn Monroe by Elliott Erwitt.
The item listed by Miami-based ebay seller gallart is a 16 x 20 inches gelatin silver print signed by Elliott Erwitt. The print is in excellent condition and comes with a certificate of authenticity included. It’s one of the photos that Erwitt took during the filming of The Misfits in 1960 in Reno, Nevada. It’s not clear if the print comes with with the frame, so if you’re interested, you might want to ask about that as well.
Erwitt may be known as for his candid black and white photos of absurd or ironic situations in everyday settings, but he was also sent on assignment to photograph celebrities and movie sets (as was the case with many Magnum photographers). He photographed Monroe on several occasions, the first (and the perhaps the best known) being his sequence snaps from the filming of The Seven Year Itch in 1954. Yep, the iconic flying skirt shots over a ventilation shaft. Erwitt would later photograph Monroe again in 1959 in between shoots of Some Like it Hot.
Whether you’re a collector of Erwitt’s work, a fan of Monroe, or simply a lover of all things vintage, this item could very well be an interesting piece to add to your collection. It’s yours for a discounted price of $6,750. Head to the ebay listing to make your inquiries or buy it now.
