Fans of Kodak Portra 400NC may be delighted to find that the popular emulsion’s look is now on VSCO.
Attention, VSCO users! If you’re a fan of the photo editing app’s film simulations, you might want to check out their latest addition. The company just introduced the Kodak Portra 400NC (KP5) preset for those who want to give their digital snaps the dreamy natural tones of the popular film.
Before anything else, this new Film X preset is exclusively available to VSCO members. So if you’re just joining the app or haven’t signed up yet, you can try out the Kodak Portra 400NC (KP5) with a free-day membership trial. This membership also unlocks all the other presets, and comes with access to more tools for fine tuning your edits.
Already secured your VSCO X membership? The company also included some tips for editing your snaps with the new Kodak Portra 400NC (KP5) preset. Aside from Strength, you can also tweak your Film X presets with Character and Warmth controls. The Character tool, they say, is especially powerful with the KP4. Moving the slider to the left produces a less saturated and flat look. Sliding it to the right makes the effect more saturated and more contrasty. Play around with the sliders to see the range of effects they create and get the exact look that you want.
As for the preset’s emulsion namesake, the Kodak Portra 400 NC film was introduced in 1998 mainly for portrait and wedding photography. The NC stands for “natural color” and another variant, the VC, was for “vivid color.” Kodak introduced a new version of the Portra 400 film in late 2010, replacing the NC and VC varieties. All these versions became some of the most beloved films for portrait and fashion photography, so we can say it’s about time VSCO included the NC version to their Film X preset line-up.
Go ahead and check out VSCO’s announcement to preview the new preset’s look.
