The iPhone X (10) is now out in the wild and reviewers everywhere are getting their hands on Apple’s latest and greatest hardware. One of the iPhone X’s top features is the improvements to the camera as well as updates to Apple’s software bokeh functionality, so as you would expect, many reviewers are talking a lot about that.
Joe Allam is one such real-world reviewer who got his hands on the new iPhone and recently posted his first impressions over on his YouTube Channel. Allam has had an iPhone 6 for the last couple of years, so this was his first time playing with the dual camera setup that Apple introduced in the iPhone 7 plus. As a photographer Allam has some interesting observations about the iPhone X, so have a look at the video.
The iPhone X now has the ability to do the software bokeh with the front facing camera. This was something many people were excited about because of the selfie potential. But as Allam discovered in his video, it appears the experience and results just aren’t up to par with what you get out of the rear facing cameras – at least outdoors where busy backgrounds and such give the iPhone algorithm troubles.
For all of its improvements and upgrades, it is still pretty clear that while the iPhone X is capable of beautiful images there is still very much a place for the dedicated cameras we all still love – at least from a professional perspective (But were any of you REALLY worried about that?).
