Canon has some fantastic lenses in its portfolio. From 85mm f1.2 to RF 135mm f1.8 L, each lens has something unique for users. Since the RF lineup is relatively new, Canon is keen on building a strong portfolio. Per a new report, Canon users will get new options to work with. Have a look.
According to Canon Rumors, the company is working on two new lenses, which have been described by the publication as “never before seen.” The lens is likely to be introduced on August 25, but the details are sparse.
One is said to be a prime lens and the other will be a zoo offering. They are said to be the L series, and one will have a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) autofocus system. The other one is unclear. However, which of the Canon lenses will offer VCM treatment?
As of 2025, Canon has 64 lenses and the report states that the lenses are new, and not an update on existing designs. One lens that is a long time in talks is the 35mm f1.2L, which is said to be on the horizon. There is a possibility that this could be the lens that will be introduced soon. On the other hand, there could be f1.2L variant of either 24mm or 28mm options.
At the same time, 50mm and 85mm f1.2L are also out of stock in many places. The lenses are also yet to be updated and so, it is possible that the company may need to find a replacement for them.
Maybe it’s time for some of Canon’s crazy tilt-shift designs to finally be announced.
From Canon Rumors
There is a possibility that a 24-70mm f2.8 could also be a lens that may be introduced with a VCM motor. With July-August season around, a lens of this nature can be of help. The VCM can help with near-silent autofocus, a better click-less aperture ring, and suppressed focus breathing. There are only five primes and two zooms, and the line can do better with more shots. At the same time, the company could introduce a 28-70 mm f2, which will be better for Canon users. Sony has a version, and so, Canon must have something similar.
Canon has so far been methodical about the lens launch. They introduced the 14mm f1.4L, followed by the 7-14mm f2.8-3.5L. Since Canon wishes to get more lenses, they will have to work around a broader range. Either way, one has to wait and see what the company has in store. August 25 is not too far away, and if this turns out to be true, we may see more details soon. Until then, you had better start saving.
