Nikon has multiple cameras, and there are some that work better than others for genres such as wildlife and bird photography. While the company is launching newer models, it appears some will have to bid adieu. Here’s a look at the device that you have to say bye to.
According to Asobinet, Nikon is discontinuing the Nikon Coolpix P950. The report states that MAP camera, Japan’s biggest camera retailer, has listed the model as discontinued on its page. However, the model is still being sold on Nikon’s official websites in Japan and USA.

Nikon’s P950 offers a 16MP sensor, with a 24-2000mm BSI CMOS sensor. The model is known for its lens, and since its launch in 2020, the company has introduced P1000 and P1100. The model is also known for its subject tracking, 4K video, and a built-in time-lapse mode.
However, the model already has better iterations, which means it’s time to let the older models go away. The P1100 offers a 24-3000mm lens, 4K UHD 30p video, and Dual Detect Optical VR. The device also features AF-S and AF-F and decent image stabilization.
Let me be honest here, the Nikon P1100 delivers some of the most beautiful telephoto images of birds I’ve seen in a while. The photos are sharp, vivid, and attractive. But the camera will do a good job shooting standard bird photos and not necessarily something unique. That’s due to how the autofocus works.

The new P1100 costs for $1000, which means it is quite affordable even today. Furthermore, it offers better lenses, and a few other features that are better suited for photographers of today. If you are someone who is keen on buying a compact camera for bird photography, then this model is the best for you.
It makes sense for Nikon to focus on its other cameras and lenses, then their older production. Either way, this is the best arrangement for the upcoming lineup.
