Canon has launched multiple cameras that cater to photographers of different skill levels. While they are liked by professionals, many young photographers tend to adore them just as much. As 2026 rolls in, we are taking a look at the devices introduced a decade ago and how they can be ideal for those who want to ditch their phones to create images with a proper device.
Canon 80D

Canon 80D features a 24MP APS-C sensor, DIGIC 6 image processor, and ISO up to 16,000. The device has a sturdy build and simpler controls than its full-frame counterparts. You also get dials on top, a large LCD that flips and rotates, and a simple-to-use menu. The autofocus is great in good lighting, even when you pair it with Sigma lenses. As we said, “It’s fast, accurate, and I honestly don’t ever remember it ever missing its focus in practice.” However, in low light, you will run into trouble. The image quality will remind you of Kodak Ektar, so you won’t have to spend too much time editing. “The color are vibrant and very life-like with some saturation to them. Most people will like them,” we added. The other concern is high-ISO photos, which may require more noise reduction above ISO 1600. Overall, the camera is ideal for young photographers who want a cost-effective device.
Canon 5D Mk IV

Canon 5D Mk IV is a 30MP full frame camera designed for serious photographers. While a DSLR, the device has a cult following, with many photographers still relying on it. The autofocus performs flawlessly, even in low light, and the build quality makes it ideal for a variety of situations. As we wrote in our review, “In extremely low light situations, the hit rate is simply astounding. Very few Nikon cameras can keep up like this.” In addition, you get spectacular images, with JPEGs offering nice colors. The RAW files offer good dynamic range, and the high-ISO results are great, too. As we added, “Even when printing, I wouldn’t really have any major issues printing a 17×22 at ISO 6400.” If you are learning photography or want to take on assignments, this camera is a good choice.
Canon EOS M5

Canon M5 is a lot like the 80D, but it is much smaller and mirrorless. There is a 24MP sensor, 7 fps burst rate, image stabilisation, and Full HD 60p recording capabilities. It sports an EVF, a tilting LCD, dials at the top, and a nice build, like the Fujifilm XE-2. The autofocus is alright, and as we said, “If you’re a Canon user and have been for a while, just think about the Canon 5D Mk II. The autofocus is similar, sort of.” But where it shines the most is the images. The colors are nice, there is dynamic range versatility, and you get film-like images. If you largely shoot for Instagram or other social media, then this camera is for you. It is not a camera that offers great ISO for today’s age, which means you are better off shooting during the day. If you need a small camera that delivers decent image quality, this one is for you.
