Fujifilm has launched a number of truly exciting cameras over the years. The X100 V is the perfect option for enthusiasts, while the X Pro 3 was specifically designed for professionals. Then came the GFX and X-Half series, each catering to a unique set of users. Now, it appears that the company may be working on a completely new solution, which could be of great help to many landscape photographers.
According to Fujifilm Rumors, a new report suggests that the company may be developing a firmware update to help users create panoramas with ease. This means you can rely on any 40MP X series cameras, which can help you create a sweep-panorama function. If this becomes true, then owners of the X-T5, X-H2, and X100V can capture an image in one shot.

This seems quite exciting, as it offers photographers numerous opportunities to experiment and explore. Something like this can help photographers create images in-camera, which means they don’t have to spend hours on the workflow, from aligning to making and cropping on the editing table. Furthermore, in-camera stitching can be helpful, delivering a finished JPEG that can be easily delivered to your client.
The processed panorama can also be around 20-25MB in size, and if shot frame by frame, you can create 200MB of RAW data. This also means you get 7 stops of compensation, and much sharper and cleaner images without a tripod. Sweep Panorama can also help photographers capture a cityscape at night. In addition, with Sweep Panorama, you can make film-like images with ease, thanks to the film simulation.
Panorama mode was available in Fujifilm cameras, but it was limited to models with 26MP sensors. Sony also had the same feature, which was later removed from their devices. In that regard, with a 40MP sensor, cameras such as X-T5 and X-H2 can offer more detailed images. The publication suggests Fujifilm engineers have now optimised the algorithm, perhaps tapping into the X-Processor 5’s secondary DSP core.
Either way, with this new addition, photographers can make photographs that are different. If it is indeed true, then we may have to wait until December or next year before we see something. Until then, we have to wait and see how it goes.
