Ricoh Introduces a Revamped App. But Will Photographers Care?

Ricoh Imaging has given photographers one of the best gifts: the GR series. A small, compact, yet powerful camera, the device has been one of the go-to tools for street photographers. It now seems the company is trying to make it far easier to seamlessly share one’s work with the world with the launch of a new app for GR users: GR World. What does it do, and how does it benefit you? Let’s find out.

What is the New Application?

Ricoh has announced a new mobile app, available from July 23, for Ricoh GR series users. The app is designed specifically for compact cameras and provides a plethora of features. Here’s a quick look at its main features:

• One can register their camera and name the connected camera through the app
• One can import their images to their phones, as well as see them on their phones through wireless LAN transfer

• You can also operate your shutter release and timer from the app when connected through Bluetooth
• The app also sends your location to the camera and the location information on the captured image
• The apps also have album and widget functions, wherein one can organize imported images into albums and display them as widgets on the phone’s home screen

Why Does it Matter?

This is not the first time Ricoh has had an app for photographers. They had Image Sync, which allowed them to use functions such as remote capture, image view, copying images, or sharing on social media. With this new app, you do this, one can also access images uploaded to Flickr, and then view those images on an iPhone/iPad.

With most people today using their cameras to share images instantly, the plethora of features can be helpful to make one’s workflow better. For instance, Fujifilm users get various apps for different needs. Similarly, Ricoh users can now make their operations more accessible in the ecosystem.
