Canon has been gradually shifting its focus. The company, which was once solely looking at the benefits of photographers, is now thinking of branching out further. They recently launched the Canon Powershot V1, a compact camera designed for both photographers and content creators, and the new R50 V, a camera designed specifically for video needs. And now, new reports state that the company is not going to stop here. There are more V models on the horizon.
According to Canon Rumors, the EOS R50V is not a standalone model in this lineup. The company has hinted at two new V series cameras, which will launch this year. The report states that these cameras are designed to be built on the foundation of R50 V, meaning they are likely to be video-centric devices.
The article states that this includes the highly anticipated Powershot V3, which will launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. There aren’t any details about the camera available yet, but it is expected to offer more improvements than the existing lineup. Some also say that there will be more features to help users as well.

In addition to this, there is also a report on the EOS RV series camera. We stated that the company was going to launch one, but we weren’t sure whether it would be the same as the R50 V. But now, it appears this mysterious model is going to be different. Since the R50 V evolved from the APSC-C R50 for photographers, there is also the understanding that we may get a full-frame variant in the future. They could launch an ESO R6 V, which is already a great full-frame camera for photographers. In addition, there are also rumors that another APS-C camera, the EOR 7, will be used to get a video-centric model, the EOS R7 V.
While these cameras have excited video users, there are many who are wondering why the company is creating cameras with some obvious misses. For instance, the R50 V lacks a viewfinder and image stabilization. As for photographers, they are not exactly excited about the trajectory Canon is taking now. There has not been innovation in this segment, especially when you look at flagship models like the EOS R5 II and the EOS R1 underperforming. In fact, 2024 was the year when Canon took the title of making the ‘worst camera’ home.
While one understands that video is a booming market, one can negate or forget about photographers, many of whom are loyalists. With the mirrorless camera, it took Canon a while before they managed to give us cameras like the R5 and R7. Another issue we saw is how the updates make less sense with newer cameras. For instance, the R3 was given an Editor’s choice award, but with more updates, the camera lost what made it great once, so we took away that title. The entire point of an upgrade is to get a camera that will perform better with time. But Canon does not seem to understand that. If not, then they will lose more photography users. However, knowing the company, they are unlikely to pay heed anytime soon.
