The newest Tamron ultra-wide angle zoom lens will be first released for full frame Nikon DSLRs in September.
Still missing an ultra-wide angle zoom lens for your full frame DSLR? Tamron’s latest release for Nikon and Canon mounts could be something to consider. The SP 15-30mm f2.8 Di VC USD G2 (Model A041) will first be available for Nikon mount beginning September 21st, and in Canon EF mount on October 12th.
The new high-speed, ultra-wide angle zoom lens, which takes after the outstanding image quality of its predecessor, Model A012, is incorporated with an XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens element and multiple LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements. These features, according to Tamron, noticeably minimize the distortion and lateral chromatic aberrations typically seen when shooting wide angle. Aside from an improved, highly-durable Fluorine Coating, it also comes with a newly developed AX (Anti-reflection eXpand) Coating that greatly reduces ghosting and flare, while the eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coatings ensure clear and sharp images including in peripheral areas. Meanwhile, the built-in Dual MPU (Micro-Processing Unit) and VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism work together for improved AF speed, precision, and image stabilization for all kinds of shooting.
A plus for the Canon EF mount version is the rear filter holder, which comes as a standard feature to aid the use of filters. With this feature, it’s now easier to attach gelatin filters to the rear side of the lens, which used to be difficult when shooting with ultra-wide angle lenses with large front lens elements.
Other features include moisture-resistant construction with leak-resistant seals throughout the lens barrel, and optional compatibility with Tamron’s TAP-in Console (Model TAP-01) accessory.
The Tamron SP 15-30mm f2.8 Di VC USD G2 will be available at the suggested retail price of $1,299. Visit the Tamron website for more information.
