Here’s your chance to grab two out of only 150 limited edition Leica M6 Platinum 150 Jahre Optik cameras ever made.

Thinking of getting a rare vintage Leica to add to your growing camera collection? We’ve found just the right stuff for you to consider. There’s an ebay listing for two Leica M6 Platinum 150 Jahre Optik limited edition cameras with 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M and 35mm f/2 Summicron M lenses, for a discounted buy it now price of $60,775.

According to the listing by www_schouten-select_com, the two limited edition platinum-plated Leica M6 cameras are in excellent condition, like new and probably never used. They come complete with accessories (only the 35mm Summicron-M comes with a lens hood), papers, and both presentation and inner boxes. This edition was made for the 150th anniversary of the foundation of Carls Kellner’s Optical Institute (a forerunner of Leitz) in 1849. Only 150 units were produced, each engraved with years from 1849 to 1999, along with “150 Jahre Optik” and the name and optical diagram of the lens bundled with the camera. Each body is dressed in elegant grey snakeskin (Karung) leather and comes in an equally beautiful nut-tree root-wood box.

The listing also mentioned that a total of 5 different sets of this edition were released:

  • Leica M6 Platinum + 50mm f2.8 Elmar-M (1850-1879)
  • Leica M6 Platinum + 50mm f2 Summicron-M (1880-1909)
  • Leica M6 Platinum + 50mm f1.4 Summilux-M (1910-1939)
  • Leica M6 Platinum + 35mm f2 Summicron-M (1940-1969)
  • Leica M6 Platinum + 35mm f1.4 Summilux-M (1970-1999)

Digital photography in my opinion has become too simple; and that’s fine if you’re a beginner but I also think that it breeds a number of bad habits based solely on human laziness. You may call it evolution, but in the world of communications and journalism there is the idea that as we create technology, we become the technology. So we end up just relying on it to do all the things for us. And indeed that is true–I still laugh at my old teachers who told me that I’d never bring a calculator while grocery shopping. These days, I simply order my groceries via Fresh Direct unless I need something specific that I can get a few blocks away.

The Zenit M surely and absolutely is not a Leica; I’d instead say that if Voigtlander decided to team up with Leica and make a digital rangefinder camera that Zenit is giving you pretty much what you would get. For those of us who have held and caressed their Leicas with a bit too much affinity, you’ll know the difference on first feel and even a bit on look. But in all seriousness, I think that in a blind test that most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a Leica M9. In fact, that’s what it feels most like.

Kodak Ektachrome E100 was announced to be coming back to the market in 2016; and though Kodak took its time getting it back to the market I’m elated to say that it’s finally here. Before it’s latest death, Kodak Ektachrome was deemed by Kodak to be a replacement for Kodachrome. But indeed, it has never looked like that. Instead, Kodak Ektachrome has both a saturated look to it while also remaining pretty low contrast in its appearance and in comparison to the Slide film emulsions offered by Fujifilm. At the moment, it’s also still pretty tough to get your hands on some.
