The new Laowa lens is a lightweight and affordable ultra-macro option for full frame DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras.
Heads up, macro photographers! Venus Optics has recently introduced the Laowa 25mm f2.8 2.5-5x Ultra-Macro Lens. It’s a new member in their roster of unique macro lenses alongside the 60mm f2.8 2:1 Macro & 15mm f4 Wide Angle Macro. With a magnification range of 2.5:1 to 5:1, this new lens promises flexibility when it comes to macro photography in different sizes.
The Laowa 25mm f2.8 2.5-5x Ultra-Macro Lens is made with 8 elements in 6 groups with 1-pc of low dispersion element, ensuring outstanding sharpness, minimal chromatic aberrations, and reduced color fringing in all magnification levels. The wide focal length also produces a greater depth of field compared to lenses with longer focal lengths.
It also features a small lens barrel and a lightweight design, yet is carefully equipped with an extended working distance of 40mm at 5x. With these features, the new ultra-macro lens is able to provide enough room for the lighting to reach the subjects. Because of the compact size and a weight of less than 400g, this lens is also deemed suitable for shooting in various outdoor locations and even in the laboratory.
Photographers can also equip this new Laowa lens with an optional rotating tripod collar for mounting on tripods and composing in different angles. Other upgrade options are adapters for Micro Four thirds cameras and Fujifilm X-Series cameras.
The Laowa 25mm f2.8 2.5-5x Ultra-Macro Lens comes in Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, and Sony E mounts, and can now be pre-ordered through the Venus Optics official website and authorized resellers. The suggested retail price is US $399, with shipping set for late March 2018.
