Meyer Optik is returning to their roots with the Somnium II 85mm F1.5
Myer Optik has made a name for themselves by launching vintage lens revivals on Kickstarter, but itâs been announced now that they have a new lens for pre-order that is NOT going to go through the Kickstarter circuit. That lens is their new Somnium II 85mm F1.5. This new lens will feature a âswirly bokehâ that Meyer Optik describes as âmagicalâ for its ability to draw an image like a paintbrush.
Marketing speaks aside, the Somnium II 85mm F1.5 looks a lot different from most of the previous Meyer Optik lenses that we have seen to this point. The body is smooth with just two small rings; one for the clickless aperture and one for focusing, breaking up the smooth surface of the lens casing.
The Somnium 85mm F1.5 was actually the first lens that Meyer Optik ever released after it was revived; back before we knew the company for their Kickstarter revivals of the Trioplan and Primoplan lenses that you likely have seen. This new Somnium II 85mm F1.5 is meant to be bring some grandeur back to the Somnium name and bring it in line with the quality and performance that photographers have come to know and love in the Trioplan and Primoplan lenses.
