Stuck in a rut and in need of some landscape photography inspiration? If you like some color in your landscapes, you’ll definitely enjoy looking through Slava Semeniuta’s photographs of jagged peaks in stunning scarlet. The Russian artist and photographer is an ardent lover of color, and this passion bleeds into every creative pursuit that he sets his eyes on. As with the bright and eye-catching street set titled Wet Neon, colors take center stage throughout Slava’s The Velvet Mountain snaps. The title is evidently an allusion to both the texture and the color of the misty mountains. There may already be tons of landscape photos featuring rugged scenery like this, but it’s easy to see why these velvety peaks command our attention.
Slava’s color palette for this set may be minimalist. Still, the gentle blue of the sky nicely complements the shades of red and wispy whites of the clouds. He doesn’t mention where the mountain is situated, or in fact any other details about the location, so we have no idea if the actual colors are anything close to the ones we see in this set. It’s most likely a display of his eye for color and his editing skills. But hey, those are noteworthy on their own.
What I find most striking about this small collection is how he made the colors stand out with a touch of retro mood. Look at vintage books and magazines long and often enough and you’ll get this color palette etched into your memory. Whether or not this was intentional, I’d say he did the job well.
