135mm Lenses are Legendary for Portraiture; and Samyang is Poised to Announce One for Sony FE.

Korean lens maker Samyang has been known to throw out teasers when they have new lenses in the works. Staying true to form, the company is at it yet again. There have been SAR reports over the last several months about some possible Samyang FE lenses that were in development, but nothing from the company indicated a new lens was actually incoming.

That was until the latest Samyang newsletter blast which teased the launch of a new lens; though the details on what the new lens could be were slim at best. However, the previous reports have said that a 135mm FE lens and an FE Zoom lens are the most likely candidates. Samyang is due to exhibit at CABSAT in Dubai later this month, on the 14th, which would make for an excellent opportunity to launch a new lens that was recently teased.

So, for now, we don’t really know what lens to expect, it could be an unknown zoom, or it could be that 135mm prime lens, or something else entirely. But given that the teaser just went out, and that CABSAT is the next event they will be exhibiting at – it seems like the most likely time to expect any sort of announcement. That said, while Samyang is not at CES, it is CES time and that, in and of itself, is a popular time of year to get new products announced. So we may also just see them announce the lens during CES.

Regardless, Samyang has been really jumping on board the [amazon_textlink asin=’B073ZJ2JCR’ text=’FE lens train’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6c96da6c-efee-11e7-afb7-75051e9464bb’] with their first AF lenses and it is always great to see more lens options for mirrorless systems like Sony’s E-Mount. Stay tuned and we will have updates if and when this teased lens is actually announced.
