Over the holiday weekend here in the USA the news broke that Kai Wong had split off (i.e. been fired) from DigitalRev, the Youtube channel that he helped propel into being one of the most watched photography channels on Youtube. Many wondered what his own personal channel and style would look like now that he was not shackled by that bloody producer…
Well, as it turns out, the style is strikingly similar. If you were a fan of DigitalRev reviews and the informative, yet comical way with which Kai talked about the products, then you will not be disappointed in his latest review – the Canon EOS-M5.
Now we don’t usually share reviews from other outlets, for the obvious reason that it undercuts our own coverage on a given product, but in this case, we felt compelled to share Kai’s home run review here.
The review covers many of the aspects that I think we can all agree we felt when Canon announced the EOS-M5, lots of skepticism, and eye rolls. But is the camera really all that solid, or has our bar for a Canon Mirrorless just been lowered so much that there was no way the EOS-M5 could miss it?
We will leave our full conclusions in our own review of the EOS-M5, but suffice it to say we agree with a lot of what Kai talks about in his video review here. It is a mirrorless that Canon should have given us years ago, but it’s a solid camera and will do well in almost any kit.
The Canon EOS-M5 will be officially available at retail on December 8th, but you can get yours pre-ordered via Amazon here. You can also check out our own first impressions on the EOS-M5, here.
