In this day and age, it is easy to be bombarded often with hate speech from online trolls, it happens in comment sections across the web and Instagram has been no different. But until recently there was not much you could do about them on Instagram, but that changes now.
New comment filtering options on Instagram now allows users to filter out ‘inappropriate comments’ using Instagram’s built in list of terms. This should cut down on a lot of the blatant trolling that some get on a lot of their posts, especially women and brands that promote sexy or controversial imagery. In addition to the default list of inappropriate terms the Facebook owned social network is also allowing users to add their own terms to a list, and comments using those will be filtered out as well.
This won’t make Instagram a completely troll free zone though, it’s not as if comment filters were just invented by Instagram, however, this is a good step in the right direction. The idea is to make the social network safer and more enjoyable for all of those who participate, and this allows everyone to filter out speech that they may find offensive.
Now please excuse me while I go add a bunch of 2016 Election terms to my filter list…
