Instagram has published some new, and honestly fairly impressive, statistics over on their blog today. Headlining the stats is a major milestone for the Facebook-owned social media company, word that they have officially passed 500 Million users. If you have been keeping up with Instagram’s rise at all, you would know that this indicates that the company has grown by 100 Million users in the last 9 months alone.
Even more impressive, from my perspective at least, is that of those 500 Million users, Instagram claims that 300 Million of them are active and use the social media service at least once per day. These statistics pretty clearly rebuff the recent reports waning interest in Instagram, which made headlines in recent weeks thanks to what was indicated as a 33% drop in likes and comments across the network over the last year.
What wasn’t reported widely though, was that those concerns over a 33% drop in likes and comments was actually thought to be a side effect of Instagram’s success and increasing popularity. Simply put, Instagramers’ are following too many people and due to the nature of the chronological feed users were missing a big portion of the content in their feeds. This is exactly the reasoning behind why the company introduced the algorithmic feed.
Regardless, these news numbers show that Instagram is still very much on the rise and worth the attention of users & businesses alike, specifically on the international scene, where Instagram says 80% of its users reside.
