Leica latest products from Photokina are touching on all sorts of nostalgia. On top of announcing a new Leica M-A film camera, the German camera maker is also introducing the Leica M Edition 60. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Leica M3, this latest camera skips including any screen at all to check their exposure. Rather than relying on an LCD to give users immediate feedback on their images the Leica M Edition 60 only includes a rangefinder window, forcing users to operate it like a film camera.
In place of the back LCD display there’s an ISO selector that will still give users a bit more flexibility than film. Otherwise users will be shooting blind and forced to get the exposure right the first time around. As yet another limited run Leica camera, the company says it will only produce 600 M Edition 60 bodies. The Leica M Edition 60 will come packaged with a Summilux 35mm f1.4 lens and ring up for the exorbitant price of €15,000 (about $19,424) this October.
Leica announced much more today. 16 new cameras and lenses no less. Check past the break for all the expensive photo gear.
Leica S (Type 007)
As for a bit of newer school technology Leica also announced an upgraded S-series medium format camera, the Leica S (Type 007). The new camera features a 37.5MP sensor and Leica Maestro II image processor, which are now capable of recording 4K video. The camera can also fire off at 3.5fps for sustained periods thanks to its 2GB of buffer memory. Other specs for the camera include a 3-inch, 921k dot LCD integrated GPS, and built-in Wi-Fi. The Leica S will go on sale later next spring for $25,400.
Leica S-E (Typ 006)
In case paying 25 grand for a medium format camera is too rich for your blood there’s also a Leica S-E (Typ 006) camera for $16,900. The camera also comes with a 37.5MP sensor but a lower 1.5fps continuous shooting speed.
Leica X (Type 113) and X-E (Type 102)
Leica also expanded its X-camera line up with two new X (Type 113) and X-E (Type 102) cameras. The Leica X comes with a 23mm f1.7 lens giving the Fujifilm X100T a run for its money. Then the Leica X-E adds a 24mm f2.8 lens option, where as the Leica X1 and X2 offers rangefinder fans a 35mm and 50mm focal length, respectively.
Both of the new cameras feature 16.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor as well as a 11-point AF system, and are available for pre-order now. The Leica X rings up to $2,295 and the Leica X-E’s price is $1,795.
Leica D-Lux (Typ 109)
In typical Leica fashion, the camera company also announced its version of the Panasonic LX100. The newly rechristened D-Lux (Typ 109) features an all black and metal body and the iconic red dot bringing up the camera’s price up to $1,195 (about $300 more than the LX100). Other than removing the front grip, the D-Lux seems to be exactly the same as Panasonic’s version with the same 12.8MP MFT senor and 24-75mm f1.7-2.8 Leica lens.
Leica V-Lux (Typ 114)
Leica also introduced its “rendition” of the Panasonic FX1000. Again the camera has a new cosmetic changes and a new Leica V-Lux name all for a higher $1,350 price. On board there’s a 1-inch 20MP sensor paired with an 24-400 equivalent zoom lens.
