Grand Theft Auto V online is a world of mayhem and destruction and for those who can’t or have not joined yet, there’s now a group of gaming Redditiors hitting the streets to document chaotic world. The group of gamers joined forces to create a photojournalist group called Media Lens. The players enter a passive mode to protect themselves from being killed – by other players or random explosions – allowing them to freely take photos with a virtual smartphone camera.
Christopher Murrie (a.k.a. cy_sperling on Reddit), originally created the Media Lens group after he after started playing the game in passive mode as a combat photographer. A self-described amateur photographer who has also worked on animated films such as Coraline and ParaNorman, Murrie even goes so far as to wear a black MEDIA jacket and drive a WEZL News van to hotspots where he takes photos.
“It’s fun to see who “get it” and let me get up close while they fight. Murrie wrote in a Reddit post. “Most people seem to have fun with it, but there is always one guy who can’t stop trying to run me over.”
Murrie isn’t the first photographer to turn GTA V’s in-game snapshots into art. Previously, Phil Rose, a landscape specialist, took gorgeous shots of the Los Santos (a virtual depiction of Los Angeles) like they were shot in real-life. Meanwhile, plenty of other virtual photographers in GTA V are submitted amazing work you can check out after the jump and in the Media Lens group.
