Report: Nikon Announcing the New Nikon DF on Nov 5th?

There has been a lot of chatter about a new Nikon retro FX camera. It’s rumored to be called the Nikon DF or “Dynamic Fusion” camera. According to Nikon Rumors, the announcement will take place on November 5th 2013. Nikon Pure Photography videos leading up to this announcement have been making the rounds, and they are short and sweet.  The potential specs of the camera are nice as well, especially the possibility of the D4’s sensor being used. One of the most interesting things is the ability to meter with non-AI lenses. It enables the use of a large amount of classic lenses from Nikon’s past.

I, personally, am really excited about this. Beyond the camera body, it’s everything I wanted in my next camera. I do work with a Nikon FM SLR, so if what has been said is true, I am going to be a very happy photographer.

When I got into this industry years ago, one thing really confused me almost as much as how much certain older photographers tend to treat the younger generation of us: photo vests. I’m completely positive that you’ve all seen them: a photographer of a certain distinguishment (or trying to show off without having said distinguishment) wearing their vests that look a lot like safari vests. You know, almost as if they’re going to go out on an African safari at all times without being anywhere near something like a safari. Walking down the streets doing street photography? You’ll see a photo vest. In the studio? Photo vest! Hiking? Yup, A Photo vest!

Did Canon Miss the Memo That Says Mirrorless Lenses Are Meant to Be Smaller?

When Canon introduced their new Mirrorless cameras earlier on this year (The EOS R) one of the stand out features was that the lens mount was so huge. While other manufacturers like Sony have made all things Mirrorless smaller, the late comer to the Mirrorless party seems to have decided that bigger is better. In a recently released interview, Canon engineers seem to be having a sly dig at Sony by saying that lenses with smaller mounts are far less capable than those with larger mounts.
