“Finding Vivian Maier”, a documentary about the nanny who led a double life as a street photographer, will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Maier worked as a nanny for forty years, and in that time, she took over 100,000 photographs of people and cityscapes in Chicago. Her work, however, was largely unknown until John Maloof, one of the filmmakers, purchased her negatives at auction in 2007. Her photographs have since found new life and a growing audience, and she has been heralded as one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century.
