There are numerous plug-ins and preset collections out there that promise digital photographer to give their pictures the look of old (and new) film emulsions. However, most of them require quite a lot of computing power and subsequently processing time, depending on how fast your machine is. Digital Film Tools’s Film Stocks is now out in version 1.5, and is unique in that it uses the computer’s GPU (the graphics processor that is usually a separate unit from the main processor) to compute the rendering process, making it much quicker in use than most other film emulation softwares–or so they claim!
Film Stocks 1.5 comes as a plug-in for Photoshop and Lightroom and Apple Aperture, and sports 288 film emulations, comprising emulsions from Agfa, Fujifilm, Kodak, Ilford and many others. The software retails for US-$ 95 and is available via Digital Film Tools’s website.
