Nikon previously announced that this 6.7-13mm VR lens was in production and now it has come to fruition. This wide angle zoom will give consumers a fresh new perspective and I feel those who can afford it will enjoy what it has to offer. Nikon is putting some muscle behind the 1 Series and putting out lenses at a pace faster than other new formats.
Nikon just needs to focus on slowing the introduction of overlapping lenses and focus on new glass to help diversify the lineup (announcing the 32mm f/1.2 lens would be nice). While Nikon has also introduced what seems to be an awesome 10-100mm lens, it is the third lens to cover a similar focal length since the format’s recent release.
The new Nikon 10-100mm VR seems to be phasing out the previous Nikon 30-110mm lens which was originally announced with the first Nikon 1 cameras. The lens offers a stabilized 10x view so it may be the only lens you’ll ever need for your 1 camera. It has an aperture range of f/4-5.6 and has ED as well as an aspherical element which will help with aberrations. As you may be able to tell by the picture above it seems to have a much nicer wider zoom ring when compared to the 30-110mm lens. While the old 30-110mm zoom seems to be on its way out the 10-100mm power zoom is still available but is much larger than this lens.
As of right now only a silver version of the lens is available for order from amazon and it can be snatched here for about $550. Detailed specs can be found on Nikon’s site as well as sample images here.
