Canon has officially come out and announced two brand new lenses to its arsenal, the EF 24-70 f/4L IS and the EF 35 f/2 IS. Canon shooters should be jumping up and down right now because not only are these top-of-the-line glass, they also take advantage of Canon’s latest IS and USM technology for clean and crisp images. We’re definitely excited.
The EF 24-70 f/4L features a brand new IS system that is capable of conquering blur through the entire zoom range and will even adjust accordingly for angular and shift movements during macro shooting. The new macro function comes in at a max magnification of .7x, might I add.
As with any of the L lenses, we expect nothing less than amazing quality that the L series is known for. So not only is the exterior construction superb with its high quality coatings, dust and moisture resistant seals, and fluorine coating to ensure quality images, the inner workings has to be on par as well. As far as AF goes, Canon’s ring-type USM is nothing less than outstanding with its breakneck AF speeds and near silent performance that allows you to manually adjust the focus even while in AF mode. Considering the constant f/4 aperture and the nine aperture blades, this lens will produce some nice and beautiful bokeh too.
The EF 35mm f/2 IS USM is Canon’s first attempt at featuring optical IS on a 35mm prime lens. Everything is crammed into its lightweight and comfortable body but is still able to produce quality photos ranging from portraits to landscapes. This wide angle lens comes with a fixed f/2 aperture, creating a shallow DOF and perfect for low light shooting; the optical IS is capable of creating clean and crisp images even when shot handheld. Panning IS is able to continuously adjust to your movements to produce the quality photos you want. On top of everything, you can expect its ring-type USM to always get the shot that you need quickly and accurately.
The EF 24-70 f/4L IS will be available for $1499 while the EF 35 f/2 IS will run you a lower $849 on B&H.
