Photogenic ION

The Photogenic ION, scheduled to be on shelves in January, is a battery pack for anyone that needs portability as well as the power of studio strobes.

Tech Specs:

– 120V pure sine wave inverter

– replaceable 8.8Ah lithium-ion battery

– Dual 3-prong outlets

– LED battery level indicators

– .5A USB charging port

– Weight: 3.5 Pounds (with battery)

– Dimensions: 7.5″ x 4.4″ x 3.3″

– Optional accessories: additional batteries, bag to carry inverter and up to two additional batteries.

Aside from this unit being lightweight and portable, the real attraction for this unit is that it is system independent. Gone are the days when you need two kits, one for studio and another for location. Gone are the days when you have to commit to one brand and stick with it. Grab this device and whatever lights you use in the studio and you’re ready to go. On top of that you can use it to charge your phone, iPad, power your laptop or any other device you need. The price is reasonable as well. While they couldn’t give an exact price it will be between $3-600. Depending on the wattage of your lights, you will get approximately 300-2050 flashes per charge with recycle times between 1.3-5.5s. This should be enough for almost anyone’s needs.

First Impressions

As you may know from my posts on the Profoto D1 Air and the Impact LiteTrek Pro, I enjoy writing about portable kits, so I’m very excited about the potential this unit offers. It has a flexibility we would normally look to a large generator to provide while being light and small enough to carry in your hand. I can’t wait to get one of these to test and review and if it holds to its’ claims will likely end up buying it.
