With all the exciting new TTL triggers Phottix is looking to drop, Hähnel didn’t want to miss out on the chance to get ahead. Take a look at the newly released Hähnel Viper that sets its sights on the Phottix Odin and just might come up on top too. If that’s not interesting to you, a wild Pixel King II has also been spotted.
Something that everybody could get use to are the new dedicated controls that you can find on the Viper transmitter. On top of that, you can easily make adjustments on the LCD screen for your power levels for up to three groups of Speedlites. This takes away the hassle you usually find in other E-TTL triggers where you end up toggling through your camera’s menus to shoot off your flashguns.
The Hähnel Viper will work at an impressive 100+ meters on a 2.4GHz frequency and features a hotshoe on top of the transmitter for an extra trigger or flash. Just make sure you’ve got a steady supply of AA batteries since both the transmitter and receiver will suck up two each.
From the looks of it, the Hähnel Viper is only available for Canon shooters through Bristol Cameras and other retailers in the UK. However, they come in at a comparatively low price of £135 for a transmitter-reciever combo, making them a much better choice over what the Phottix Odin and PocketWizard ControlTL has to offer.
Aside from the Hähnel Viper, the mystery Pixel King II has been spotted on a company catalogue. Its specs seem to be very similar to that of the Viper but not much else can be said at this time.
