For those that need both speed and size, Lexar has announced it is rounding out their 400x SD lineup with a 256GB option.

This card will be perfect for shooting video as well as fast-paced high volume (machine-gun) photographers. It also sets us up nicely for the next generation of ultra high resolution cameras we’re already starting to get wind of.

At an MSRP of $899.99 you’ll be tempted to consider the fact that you’ll be weighing your options between a new card or a new lens, but as with all technology I’m sure that price will come down quickly.

This announcement inspired me to dig this up to remind us of just how far we have come and how fast. This card is not really all that old and still works perfectly:

I think I still even have a 256MB card somewhere which would have been a more dramatic comparison to the 256GB, but I don’t know where I would have put it.
