Samyang/Rokinon fans rejoice: your troubles are over if you are in the market for a ultra-wide angle rectilinear lens. Coming in at 10mm and with a max aperture of f/2.8 ,here is a possible promising option. All we know now is this lens in prototype form and will be at Samyang’s booth at Photokina. It was designed specifically for APS-C based cameras. It has an ultra short focus length with an angle of view of 110 degrees (107 for you Canon users). So, for Nikon/Sony users on a 35mm equivalent that comes out to 15mm and for Canon you are looking at a 16mm.
Don’t be surprised if Samyang/Rokinon comes out with a cine version of this lens as well. Any and all details about this lens will be available at a later date. With suposed shipping of the lens happening near the end of this year or early 2013.
For those who may have purchased the Blackmagic Cinema Camera with the Canon mount, here is a wider prime than Samyang’s current 14 mm f2.8. Which is at the time of this post is the widest prime you can purchase on the market right now. This will give you a 35mm equivalent of 23mm.
If you are one of the lucky few who get to see all the photo madness at Photokina this year, check out Samyang’s stand. They will be in hall 2.1 and stand number A025.
