For those who are coming from compact cameras are used to the lens retracting and protecting itself. When these people who have graduated to a Micro 4/3 camera from Panasonic are now getting accustomed to removing the lens cap and routinely loosing it.
From Taiwan there is a new solution for the users of the Panasonic X 14-42mm lens there is a lens cap that takes care of itself called the X-Cap.
As you can see by the video above the X-Cap just needs to be placed on the end of the lens like a traditional cap but this one will sense when the lens is powered on and opens the protective cover. Its a basic but brilliant concept that I am sure will make the creator a small pile of money.
The problem I see happening with the X-Cap is that it wont be lined up properly and images will have black lines on the corners. Im also not sure if it will move if bumped or slightly twisted. All good things to keep an eye on.
The Cap is said to launch in late August with a launch price of $27. The creators site is here but its not in English although it does seem that if You ask a question he will respond in English.
