My dad has always been an avid photographer. Since its’ one of the things we have in common he always appreciates a gift that celebrates something we’re both passionate about. But sometimes it’s hard to find gifts that are fun to give and receive. Here are some suggestions that just about every dad that likes photography will appreciate. Only one of our suggestions is over $100 so you don’t have to break the bank this year to find the perfect gift.
Eye-Fi

I can’t think of anyone that wouldn’t love to have an Eye-Fi card. Send images directly to a computer, a smartphone, or many different photo sharing websites, Geo-tag that trip to Paris. This is one gift where you can’t go wrong. Chris has reviewed this card and loves it.
Gary Fong Lightsphere

The Gary Fong Lightsphere is the perfect gift for the dad that wants to take his photography to the next level. Pretty much everyone that has one of these raves about it. This starter kit will give him everything he needs to explore a better way to light his kids (and grandkids?) when using an on-camera flash. We’ve reviewed the collapsible version.
Joby Gorillapod

The Gorillapod is a great little tripod. Sturdy, fits in most bags and will attach to all kinds of crazy places, having one of these in your dad’s kit will encourage him to support his camera more of the times he should. Besides, it’s cute.
It’s also a wonderful item for holding your off-camera flashes in place.
Black Rapid Camera Strap

Ok, I’ll admit right off that I have not used the Black Rapid Camera Strap myself yet. However several members of our staff have and I’ve known others that have and everyone says this is the best strap out there. Especially if your dad is active this is a great strap to attach his camera to. If he’s quite active complete it with the Black Rapid Arm Defense.
Lens Thermos Mug

My dad probably has 50 travel mugs but for some reason he can always use another one. Give him the Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 1:1 Thermos Travel Mug so he can show off his love for the lens even when he’s not out shooting. If he’s a Canon shooter he’ll probably prefer the Canon Lens 1:1 EF 70-200 mm Coffee Cup
Vivitar 12×25 Digital Camera Binocular

How about a pair of binoculars with a built-in 8MP camera? It might seem a bit gimicky, but boys will be boys and like their toys. If your dad likes hiking, fishing, camping, birdwatching or live sporting events this might be just the thing for him.
35mm Negative and Slide Scanner

If your family is like mine they probably have boxes and boxes of slides, 35mm prints and negatives in the attic collecting dust. Scanning in a snapshot with the all-in-one on your desk as I did with the image at the top might work for facebook or email, but if dad wants to reprint an image for an album or to hang on the wall a 35mm Negative and Slide Scanner like this one is a much better option.
Scuba Mask with built in Camera/Camcorder

The Scuba Mask with built in Camera/Camcorder is the perfect gift for the dad that has everything. We gave one to my dad for Christmas this year while vacationing in Jamaica and it was a lot of fun to use. He won’t get the quality of a professional underwater camera, but it’s convenient and hands’ free to document those underwater adventures.
Solar Charger

Help your dad go green this year with a solar charger. This one will charge his cell phone, iPhone and most USB Powered devices including his digital camera. It also includes an LED reading light and suction cups to attach it to his windshield.
Contour HD Wearable Helmet Camcorder

Another idea for the active dad that has everything is the Contour HD Wearable Helmet Camcorder. He can get other accessories for it as well including a waterproof case or a flat surface mount.
So there you have it. Ten suggestions for the dad that loves photography that will wow him without emptying that bank account he so graciously filled for you.
