Well, I am currently working with the new Nikon 24mm f/1.4G ED AF-S RF SWM Prime Wide Angle Nikkor Lensand oh man what a sweet piece of glass it is! When it comes to Camera lenses, I am a lover of all things prime. If you have read previous post on this site like “Why Everyone Needs an 85mm Lens” you could understand my interest in this lens.

First Shots
I woke up early, day after receiving the lens, to get to work and I took this lens for a walk to the train station. Out the box this lens is a joy to work with. There was very, very low light this morning. The sky was overcast due to the previous nights rain. The lens handled the light well. The other shots I took with the Nikon 24mm f/1.4worked out very well also.

Focal Length and Angle of View of Lens
On a FX or Full Frame Nikon DSLR the actual focal length is 24mm but since my camera is a D90, a DX/APC-C sensor it made the lens 36mm. The autofocus was quite and fast. Shooting at such a wide angle was very interesting. This lens 84° diagonal on FX is 61° on DX cameras such as my D90.

Feel of the lens
It had quite a weight to it. Compared to the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lensit’s a big lens. This lens will take up as much room as a zoom lens in your camera bag. The only button the lens has and needs is the M/A (Autofucus) – M (Manual)switch. The Auto Focus ring is easy to reach when needed.
Image Quality
I like my initial shots. They were hurried and for just waking up and rushing to the train with a lack of coffee, they were decent. I liked the colors the lens produced also. The lens is great close up , and far away, it’s all about how you compose with this lens do to the wide angle.
