At Photo Plus Expo, I had the chance to quickly play with Nikon’s new mirrorless cameras. To tell you the truth, I did not want to do this at first. When the Nikon 1 series was announced, these little scamps made my heart sink a little. These cameras are Nikon to the core and there is a certain heritage there that I did not think was being lived up to. These cameras, to me, fell between Nikon’s top of the line point and shoots and the DX cameras like the D3100 and D5100. But you know what? I was wrong. You should not judge a book by its cover. While I am not the biggest fan for the Nikon 1 J1 the V1 is much better than I thought it would be. [click to continue…]

One of my favorite things to do at any Comic book or Anime Convention or combination of the two like New York Comic con is to photo walk around the show and take cosplayer portraits. SD1
With the SD1 becoming available in early June we’ve just received some more detailed information about this new offering from Sigma. The really groundbreaking aspect of it is its’ Foveon sensor. With the Foveon each pixel captures Red Green and Blue signals simultaneously instead of separate pixels dedicated to each channel and interpolating that data later. The result is a whopping 40MP image and the claim is that you gain greater color fidelity and less color noise. The questions are two-fold. First, will this be true, and second, will it have a market?
