Nikon Announces Development of an 800mm Lens Designed For Spying On Your Neighbors

by Peter Walkowiak on 07/12/2012

Nikon has announced that it is developing its longest autofocus lens ever made, this 800mm f5.6 monster. That’s where most of us are going to stop reading because the only way we will be able to afford this is if it fell off a truck. The final price has not been announced but I’m sure we can expect a price near $10,000.

The lens will feature all of Nikon’s latest lens technology as we would expect including VR, dust and water resistance. Nikon will be premiering the lens at the Open Golf Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England, between July 19th and 22nd 2012. I’d love to see the focal length damage done by combing this with a Nikon V1!

A lot of thanks for sharing this interesting Nikon development! I’m quite excited to see reviews.

There’s a reason they call it a crop factor… not a focal length multiplier.

How is this news? Canon has had this focal length for YEARS and they also make a 1200mm. Nikon: the camera body for moms-turned-photographers everywhere. Sigh. Lame.

      Hello Dear Internet Troll!

The Canon 1200mm has been discontinued and hasn’t been manufactured for years!

      Cheerio!

Canon fanboi with the big chip on its shoulder! Nikon users pause and shrug, then go back to snapping photos.

Nikon in the old days produced also a 1700mm lens…not AF, this should be a beast !

Just because a person spends a *Little* more on a camera/lens doesn’t make them a better photographer, plenty of other makes out there do just as good a job fraction of the price.. It’s how you use the camera that matters.. want to spend extortionate amounts buy a Leica
